I don't want to change into my winter riding gear. I don't want to get cold; I'd rather stay inside and watch a movie. But I drag my butt to the bedroom and put on my cycling tights and put on my layers. I locate my gloves and hat and helmet.
I arrive at the trailhead and grudgingly get out of my car to take the bike off the roof and put the light on my helmet and put my gloves on. I'm still not convinced I want to be here. It's bloody cold out here!
The ride starts and my gloves don't seem to be keeping my hands warm and my jacket seems way too thin.
A few minutes in and my hands are warming up, and my lungs are getting used to the temperature change. My legs are feeling pretty good now. My hands soon start feeling normal and I'm starting to regret my decision to ride less and less by the second.
Halfway through the ride I'm feeling much better. I've even started to sweat a little bit; I definitely did not overdress. The trails are sweet!! They're hard and smooth and fast as hell! I'm really enjoying this. I'm getting fresh air, working off some holiday eating and ripping down a trail, can it get any better than this?
The ride ends way too soon and I've ridden for about an hour and a bit in -10 degree weather. It leaves me wanting more, looking forward to the next ride. I make a mental note to recharge my light, adjust my front derailleur and remember the adrenalin rush until the next time.
Gotta love winter riding!!

Right on the money! Even though I'm stuck with my brother's too-small-for-me fully-rigid while I save up for a new bike, I still end up coming home in a better mood than when I left. This is only my second season riding in the winter and I'm having too much fun getting the rear-end loose on the trails whenever I can.

Hey DanM, I recognize your profile picture. I think Rockhopper has a picture of him hucking off that rock also. Glad you enjoyed the ride the other night. RH is still feeling the pain in his legs from trying to keep up to you youngins'.
